How to Make the Most of Our E-Waste Solutions

Threats to Information & The Environment

It’s no secret that information threats in the digital realm are increasing every day, but did you know that these threats don’t just exist via the internet or on your servers, but also on your end-of-life electronics? What is your process for regulating old laptops, cellphones, tablets, and even storage devices like CDs and thumb drives once they are no longer in use in your organization? Most companies have storage rooms with old computers and outdated digital record backups and they aren’t sure what to do with them. Even if you take the time to erase your hard drive before disposing of your old computers, an experienced hacker can still find ways to recover your sensitive information.

In addition to threats of information security, outdated electronics also pose a huge threat to the environment. With the rapid release of new technologies each year, computers, laptops, and tablets are reaching the end of their useful life sooner and sooner. When users aren’t sure how to properly dispose of those items, it can be detrimental to the environment and to those in the areas surrounding the “recycling centers.” According to the Population Reference Bureau 50%-80% of the world’s E-waste is “recycled” in third world countries where they burn the waste. This process causes toxins seep into the air and ground water supplies. These create increased risks for the environment and for the populations, who are at a higher risk for things like lead poisoning, pulmonary illnesses and cardiovascular disease.

Knowing how to properly dispose of your outdated electronics will go a long way to ensuring the safety of your information, the environment, and those who are responsible for handling the waste.

Where can I dispose of my outdated electronics?

Augusta Data Storage is proud to provide a secure destruction and recycling process for your E-Waste and out of date electronics. We accept a variety of items including hard drives, server drives, memory boards, backup tapes and compact discs, cell phones and tablets, keyboards and other computer accessories, network routers and more.

Who can use e-waste destruction services at Augusta Data Storage?

We accept e-waste from businesses and consumers alike. If you have a large quantity of devices we would be happy to coordinate a pickup from you, or we can accept items for drop-off destruction at our office in Augusta, GA.

How does the destruction process work?

We have an on-site machine that can shred hard drives, disks and other items. Check out this video of our machine at work!

What makes the process safe for my information?

Much like our secure shredding process, our electronic waste destruction is NAID AAA certified. Your items are destroyed on-site, in our facility and are not shipped out to a third-party vendor to handle. In addition to having a secure process, we also provide a certificate of destruction for your records which includes a list of the items destroyed.

How is this process safer for the environment?

Once the items are destroyed, we partner with an electronics recycling firm that safely recycles 100% of the shredded materials. The zero landfill operation sorts and separates the shredded materials and remaining parts so that the scrap commodities can be recycled to make new products. This means that none of the items ever end up in landfills, which allows our process to have a minimal impact on the environment.
