Community Shred Days – April 2017

During the month of April we logged 2 successful community shred events! Our community shred events offer an opportunity for our organization to partner with local businesses and groups to provide free shredding services for their customers and area residents. We were excited to partner with both the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department AND the Cleveland Group CPAs the last two weekends in April to help provide secure document shredding to Augusta area residents. The events spanned just 7 hours total, but we managed to make a huge impact, for both area residents AND our local landfills and environment. Not only do our shredding services ensure that your outdated or unneeded personal documents are securely destroyed, it also provides an opportunity for those items to be recycled to create what we refer to as “environmental savings.”

We encourage secure shredding for many reasons, but protecting you from identity theft is a major one. According to an article by the Insurance Information Institute, The 2017 Identity Fraud Study, released by Javelin Strategy & Research, found that $16 billion was stolen from 15.4 million U.S. consumers in 2016. Thats a lot of identity theft, and people aren’t just being targeted online, many experts still point to paper bills, old financial files, tax documents, and similar records in paper form as a target for those with malicious intent. That means secure shredding shouldn’t be something you consider, it should be something you’re actively doing, the experts say keep only those records you need and actively use, all the rest should be shredded.  The great news is that even outside of our semi-annual community events and scheduled pick-up services at local businesses, we also offer secure shredding drop-off at our Augusta, GA office location. Drop-off shredding is for anyone, which means whenever you’re ready to shred that box full of outdated documents, were here to help.  So, why not protect yourself AND help protect the environment.

Interested to see how every little bit helps? During our events we collected documents in our secure mobile shredding units for just 7 hours and managed to collect over 10,000 pounds of paper to shred. That might not seem like a lot, but those 5 Tons of paper resulted in noticeable environmental savings. According to the EPA, that weight of recycled paper will save over 90 trees, 37,000+ gallons of water, 22,000+ Kw of energy used during the paper production process, 325.2 lbs of pollutants and will save over 27 yards of space in local landfills!
